As our Behold: The Revelation of Jesus Christ series continues, Pastor Krissy Miles explores Jesus' letters to the churches in Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea in Revelation 3. Preached over Fourth of July weekend, this message reflects on America's 250th anniversary while challenging believers to examine their spiritual condition through Christ's perspective.
The church in Sardis had a reputation for being alive but had grown spiritually complacent, reminding us that faith requires more than past success—it calls for present obedience. Philadelphia remained faithful through persecution and received Christ's promise of an open door, demonstrating that the Church can thrive regardless of opposition. Laodicea serves as a warning against spiritual lukewarmness, self-sufficiency, and comfort that can blind us to our need for Christ.
Throughout the message, Pastor Krissy reminds us that these letters are not simply instructions for self-improvement, but a revelation of Jesus Christ that calls us to live by grace through faith. The sermon concludes with a personal challenge to remain spiritually awake, resist compromise, stand firm in the truth, and faithfully advance the gospel until Christ returns.
